Compress Video for WhatsApp

Choose a target file size and resolution and we calculate the bitrate needed to fit, encode an MP4, and then check the real output size. If the first pass comes out too big, it's re-encoded once at a lower bitrate.

Your video is uploaded over HTTPS, processed on our server, and deleted automatically: the upload as soon as processing ends, the result 30 minutes after it is ready.

About this tool

WhatsApp's own limits differ between phones, app versions and whether you send a video or a document, and they change over time, so we don't promise a file will be accepted. You choose the size, and we tell you exactly what you got.

How to use the Compress Video for WhatsApp

  1. Choose the video.
  2. Pick a target size and resolution. Smaller targets need lower resolutions to look good.
  3. Press Compress and wait for processing to finish.
  4. Check the verified size, download the MP4 and share it in WhatsApp.

Limitations

  • Long videos may be too long for a small target. If the bitrate would be too low to be watchable, you'll be asked to pick a bigger target or a shorter clip.
  • Audio is encoded at 96 kbps AAC to leave more room for the picture.
  • Maximum upload size and length are shown in the upload box.

Need bigger files or batch processing? and we'll consider it for a future paid plan.

Frequently asked questions

What size should I choose?

16 MB is a common limit people aim for when sending as a regular video. If you send larger files as a document instead, you can choose a bigger target.

Why is the result a bit under my target?

We leave a small margin so container overhead doesn't push the file over the limit.

Will it work with WhatsApp Status?

Status shows short clips. The MP4 we create uses widely supported settings, but WhatsApp may still trim or recompress it.
