Compress Image to 20KB

Marukit's Compress Image to 20KB is a free web tool that gets a JPG under 20 KB at the highest quality that fits. It's made for the small files exam and job forms ask for, most often a scanned signature.

Your images are processed inside your browser and are never uploaded to our servers.

About this tool

You can set a range (for example 10 to 20 KB), an exact pixel size, and a signature clean-up that makes the paper white and the ink black. You always see the real size in KB and bytes.

How to use the 20KB compressor for signatures and photos

  1. Scan or photograph your signature (or photo) and choose the file.
  2. Check the target: 20 KB is filled in. If your form gives a range or exact pixels, enter them, for example 10 to 20 KB and 140 x 60 px.
  3. For a signature, tick 'Signature: clean white background, black and white'.
  4. Press Compress, check the preview and the exact size, then download the JPG.

Not working? Quick fixes

  • Can't reach 20 KB? Leave 'Reduce dimensions if needed' on. If you set an exact pixel size, try a smaller one if your form allows it.
  • Result below your minimum? Start from a larger or sharper scan, or turn off 'Exact size in pixels'.
  • Signature looks faint after the clean-up? Sign again with a darker pen, or untick the signature option and use the original.

Supported formats

Input
JPG, PNG, WebP (plus GIF, BMP and AVIF if your browser can open them)
Output
JPG or WebP
Processing
In your browser

Limitations

  • 20 KB holds very little detail, so a full-size phone photo has to be made much smaller. If the form doesn't give a pixel size, the tool shrinks the image until it fits.
  • The signature clean-up makes the image black and white. Use it only for signatures, never for your photo.
  • The result is aimed at just under 20 KB (20,480 bytes). Some portals count 1 KB as 1,000 bytes; the exact byte count is shown so you can check.
  • Camera details and GPS location are not kept in the output image.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get a signature between 10 KB and 20 KB?

Enter 20 as the target and 10 as the minimum. The tool picks the highest quality under 20 KB and tells you if the result is still under 10 KB, which can happen with tiny, very clean images.

What should a signature scan look like?

Sign with a black pen on plain white paper, scan or photograph it in good light, and crop close around the signature. Then tick the signature option so the paper comes out pure white.

How do I turn centimetres into pixels?

Pixels = centimetres / 2.54 x DPI. At 200 DPI, 6 cm is about 472 px. Use the numbers your own notice gives.

Why does my 20 KB photo look small or soft?

20 KB holds very little detail, so the picture has to be made smaller. If your form allows it, a bigger limit such as 50 KB keeps more detail.

Is my signature uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything runs in your browser on your device.
