Compress Image to 50KB
Marukit's Compress Image to 50KB is a free web tool that gets a photo under 50 KB at the highest quality that fits, the size many online application forms ask for.
Your images are processed inside your browser and are never uploaded to our servers.
About this tool
Many forms also give an exact pixel size or a range. Enter them and the tool crops your photo to that shape, then finds the best quality under the limit, so you don't need a separate resizer.
Other sizes: 20 KB · 100 KB · 200 KB · 1 MB

How to use the 50KB compressor for passport-size photos
- Choose a recent photo with your face clearly visible on a light or white background.
- Check the target: 50 KB is filled in. If your form gives pixels or a range, tick 'Exact size in pixels' and enter them, for example 200 x 230 px and a 20 KB minimum.
- Press Compress and check the preview, so your face isn't cut off, and the exact size.
- Download the JPG and upload it to the form.
Not working? Quick fixes
- Face cut off with an exact pixel size? Crop the photo first with the Image Resizer so your face is in the middle, then try again.
- Result below your minimum? Use a larger or sharper original photo.
- Form still rejects the photo? Check the background, size and format rules in your own notice; this tool changes only the size and pixels.
Supported formats
- Input
- JPG, PNG, WebP (plus GIF, BMP and AVIF if your browser can open them)
- Output
- JPG or WebP
- Processing
- In your browser
Limitations
- With an exact pixel size, the photo is cropped from the centre to fill that shape. If your face is near the edge, crop the photo first with the Image Resizer.
- The tool changes size and quality only. It doesn't change the background or check whether a portal will accept your face, glasses or lighting.
- The result is aimed at just under 50 KB (51,200 bytes). Some portals count 1 KB as 1,000 bytes, so check the exact byte count shown.
- Keep the photo in colour: the signature option makes images black and white and is not for photos.
- Camera details and GPS location are not kept in the output image.
Frequently asked questions
How do I make a photo exactly 200 x 230 px and under 50 KB?
Tick 'Exact size in pixels', enter 200 and 230, keep 50 KB as the target and press Compress. The photo is cropped to that shape first, then compressed.
My form says between 20 KB and 50 KB. What do I enter?
Enter 50 as the target and 20 as the minimum. If the result is still under 20 KB, the tool says so; a larger or sharper original photo usually fixes it.
Will my photo be accepted?
We can't promise that. Portals check things like the background, face size and how recent the photo is. Follow your own notice; this tool only gets the size and pixels right.
Can I use a photo from my iPhone?
Yes, if your browser can open HEIC (Safari can). Otherwise convert it with HEIC to JPG first.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. Everything runs in your browser.
